Navigating Innovation:
Contextualising Research Value

Course Content:

This course provides an overview of innovation and entrepreneurial practices, methodologies and tools across disciplinary arenas including, for example, technology, engineering, life sciences, social sciences and the arts.
Designed for early-stage PhD students, this course highlights innovative research assets using transdisciplinary lenses. Beyond business, it emphasizes diverse value creation for society and academia. Engaging with peers across disciplines and interviewing thought leaders in their respective fields we explore methods of assessing, synthesizing and communicating key insights while building a knowledge platform around entrepreneurship and innovation literacy.

Learning Objectives:

After having completed the course, participants should have abilities to:

  • Analyze different forms of innovation and entrepreneurship with a focus on value creation
  • Identify and define innovation potential assets in respective research and transdisciplinary research context
  • Synthesize, assess and communicate learnings and research findings in an interactive format

Day 1:

  • Forms of Entrepreneurship
  • Research , innovation and value
  • Interaction with university spin-offs

Day 2:

  • Innovation Assets (identifying intellectual assets/values)
  • Transdisciplinary Teamwork
  • Introduction to interviewing

Day 3:

  • Group work and individual work conducting interviews with experts and thought leaders in their respective field

Day 4:

  • Group work and individual work working on assessment and synthesis on finding and further translating into communicable digital format

Day 5:

  • Platformed innovation
  • Case studies on Fail better

Form of Teaching:

The course is taught as a combination of online lectures and activities and on-site activities.

Examination:

Participants will be assessed individually through three short assignments based on the objectives of the course (with pass/fail). Each of the assignments will be presented to the big plenum. We assess the quality of the individual findings and their participation in groups identifying, assessing and communicating synergies between the individual research field and their peer contextual areas. A digital hand in will contribute to an emerging knowledge database.
