Martin Avila, SSES Centre Director at Konstfack
Martin Avila is SSES Centre Director at Konstfack, and recently appointed Professor at Konstfack. He works with research through design; a critical design practice that questions ways of knowing, sensing and being. He is a Researcher and Senior Lecturer in Design for Sustainable Development at Konstfack in Stockholm, and obtained a PhD in design from HDK (School of Design and Crafts) in Gothenburg, Sweden. His PhD work was awarded the 2012 prize for design research by the Swedish Faculty for Design Research and Research Education.
Martin has earned a Degree in Industrial Design from the National University of Córdoba in Argentina in 1995, and a Master in Design Studies from the Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design in 1999. He has been working as a professional designer since 2000, and has worked as a guest lecturer at numerous universities and institutions in America, Africa, Europe and Asia. Since 2006, his work is included in the IASPIS archive, The Swedish Arts Grants Committee.
