The foundation of Dr. Anna Maria Orrù’s work is embedded in biomimicry (Nature’s inspiration), artistic/design research and in curating performative ‘hands-on’ research, providing alternative approaches to ecological design and sustainability to tackle the climate emergency. She is based in Sweden and Italy and holds a PhD in Architecture/Artistic Research from Chalmers University of Technology (Title: ‘Wild Poethics’ 2017). She is an Affiliated Senior Lecturer at the Design Department at Konstfack – University of Arts, Crafts and Design with a focus on sustainability, but also teaches & lectures in other Swedish universities, including in Italy. She is co-founder and co-director of Nordic Biomimicry, a center dedicated to collaborating with nature as a mentor, measure and method. In her spare time she is a beekeeper and takes care of an olive grove, and in 2020 has planted a biodynamic vineyard and roots for a contemporary Nature School in Toscana.
