Demystifying Venture Capital

For many new entrepreneurs, the world of Venture Capital can seem mysterious, confusing, and difficult to understand. Not knowing what motivates Venture Capitalists and how the system works can be a great disadvantage to startups looking to raise money.

During this short session we will give you an introduction to the world of Venture Capital. We will show you how it works, when a VC is most likely to make a first-time investment and how this might affect the relationship between investor and startup. The aim of this seminar is to give you the skills you need to seek better deals with VCs through an enhanced understanding of how it works.

After the seminar, you will have a good, clear understanding of the nature of Venture Capital, what motivates the industry and how to position your startup for VC investment.

This seminar serves as a great opportunity for those of you with a strong interest in the world of entrepreneurship. You might already have your own startup or perhaps you are thinking about launching a business in the future. Either way, this session if for you.


All students and alumni of SSES member universities are eligible to apply to this Breakfast Seminar. We get many applications and unfortunately cannot accept everyone. The selection process is outlined below:


  1. Application is reviewed
  2.  Selection is made and confirmation email is sent out
  3.  Participant must confirm his or her seat in order to secure the spot
  4.  If spots are not confirmed in time, the waitlist will be reviewed and new participants selected

About the teacher

Fabian has over 20 years of working experience in Engineering, Management Consulting and Investment Banking with the likes of Lucent Technologies, A.T. Kearney and JP Morgan. Most recently, he is actively involved in Finland’s entrepreneurial ecosystem as a startup coach and Lean Launchpad® trainer, and helps organizations understand and execute Lean Startup methodologies and Customer Development. Fabian teaches numerous venture related courses Aalto Executive Education, and other universities. He has co-founded several companies and is an active Angel investor. He is also a co-founding Partner of Courage Ventures Management, a Venture Capital fund investing in Health & Wellness, Education, and Environment verticals. Fabian has a BSc in Electrical Engineering, an MSc. in Finance and a PhD in International Business (Entrepreneurship).
