Dr.h.c. Stefan Persson is one of the most renowned people in Swedish industry. Further developing his father’s business, H&M, he led the global expansion of the company and took it to its lofty position of the world’s leading high street fashion chain with almost 2000 stores.
Stefan began his H&M career as Country Manager for the UK market, and later took the position of CEO, which he held for 16 years until 1998. Today his primary role in the company is as Chairman of the Board. He has also served on the boards of Electrolux, INGKA Holding BV, SE-Banken, Custos and Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship.
In early 2010 Stefan was awarded an Honorary Doctorate at Karolinska Institutet for his continued dedication and support of research, innovation and enterprise in Stockholm. Furthermore, he is the founder and Chairman of the Erling-Persson Family Foundation, which has supported SSES and enabled it go from strength to strength over the past ten years.
