Kåre Bremer

Dr. Kåre Bremer, who has been the Rector of Stockholm University since 1 February 2004, has a long and distinguished academic career within the field of botany. He completed a PhD in Botany in 1976 at Stockholm University and has occupied various positions at Stockholm University, Missouri Botanical Garden (St.Louis, USA), Swedish Museum of Natural History, and Uppsala University. During his time at Stockholm University Kåre has, among other things, led and integrated a reform of the teacher education system. And, while at Uppsala University, as Dean of Biology, he was responsible for planning the Evolutionary Biology Centre with more than 400 scientists. Kåre has also served as Secretary General for Natural and Engineering Sciences at the Swedish Research Council 2000-2003. Furthermore, he is a fellow of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and the Linnean Society of London.
