Guy Kawasaki dials into first class of ‘Ideation’

20 Jan, 2009

On Monday, January 19, 2009, Guy Kawasaki, a world-renowned entrepreneur dialed in from California using skype to participate in the core course ‘Ideation – Creating a business idea’, held by Mary Spaeth.

Guy shared some of his thoughts on entrepreneurship. These included a firm belief in creating products/services that the founders would buy or use themselves and that entrepreneurs should not depend on market research when starting a company. Prioritizing the concept of making meaning will almost always make money. However, founding a company on the basis of making money will attract the wrong kind of co-founders according to Guy.

Students participating in the course also had an opportunity to ask Guy questions and Saana Azzam of Stockholm School of Economics and Hampus Breistein of Royal Institute of Technology both took the opportunity to this. In response to one question about handling failure, Guy outlined that he had learnt a lot from his own failures. He also noted towards the end of the call that the best product does not necessarily win, citing safari versus windows as an example of this.
